It's interesting to see the negative reviews... I've never had anything but a positive experience with the staff here. If only for the staff, they get a 5. They're helpful and attentive. The building itself and the books leave much to be desired because Jacksonville doesn't pour enough money into its libraries. I hope the folks who are posting comments about the state of the building realize that they can talk to their elected officials to try to address this.... This isn't a business that you can post a few snarky comments online and thus put pressure on their bottom line... This is OUR library. If you wanna make it better, get involved. Volunteer. Donate. Put the screws to your elected officials! I've sent letters to folks... Now if only all of us did, then maybe it would be an issue they knew we cared about.
Excellent library, clean, quiet, lots of books and computers for me to study and learn. They also have a huge variety of audiobooks,CD's,movies to browse from. Thankful for a library location near me.
I think the staff here are doing the best they can with what they have. I love bringing my kids here... Not because it's great (I miss my library in Evanston IL) but because it's the library in my community and I'm going to support it!
I had a several-hour drive home to Georgia and was getting exhausted to the point that I no longer felt I could safely stay on the road, so I stopped in here thinking a library would be a safe place to rest for a while. Made my way to a table all the way in the back and laid my head down on the table. A rude librarian came over and began slamming books and saying, "Excuse me, you can't sleep here!!!" I wasn't even sleeping and was quietly in a corner in the back of the room not disturbing anybody. Apparently trying to avoid a car wreck was asking too much of the grumpy librarian, though.
This facility is in need of an upgrade. The last time that I was there ( about 1 year ago) There were electrical sockets hanging out of the wall, there was not enough desk space available, and like some of the others have posted, the people using the facility are loud and inconsiderate of others. This could be a nice facility if the city would make the necessary upgrades and hire or train the staff to maintain an environment appropriate for a library setting.
I get books there all the time and I'm on up side⭐down magic.
