In April 2015 my brothers and I had a disappointing experience in arranging for the services for our mother. Mr. Hewell Sr. favored a sister who had disconnected herself from the family for years. She was not contributing financially to funeral and burial expenses, but Mr. Hewell allowed her to change arrangements and choices made by the majority -- even the obituary -- without our knowledge. Mr. Hewell had required payment up front, so there was no leverage on our part after the fact. At such a difficult and sensitive time, this was blatant disrespect to the majority of the family that continues to intrude on the grieving process as we recall those days. In fairness, I want to acknowledge that others on staff were gracious and understanding, and apologized for not being able to intercept the wrongs being done.
