Nice local museum. Very nice to see artwork displayed as if in someone's house. Nice gardens though currently there is work to be done to recover from Hurricane Irma.
Went for the INK, SILK, GOLD Exhibition. Beautifully done. Stopped at the cafe for lunch, lovely staff and the food was very good for a small cafe. Nice selection.
First visit to the museum
The Cummer museum is a historic site that is very nicely updated to display many eras of art and history. It is very good for children and have classes for them. We home school and are members of the museum now. Take a day and enjoy some of the history from the area.
Staff throughout the museum were very friendly and accommodating. Beautiful gift shop, but on the pricey side. Look forward to returning to visit the gardens.
I have been all around the world, seen some of the of the most famous museum, and I enjoyed the Cummer Museum better than most of them. The grounds are beautiful, gardens overlooking the river. A perfect blend of art, from Egyptian, to Classic, to Renaissance, to Impressionism, to Modern. I really enjoyed alot of the pieces, but I was most impressed with their Normal Rockwell.
I went with my little brother and they have little art kits where you can do watercolor paintings outside! It's a clever way to engage kids and also a lot of fun for all ages regardless of art skills. Gardens and the view are beautiful! Artwork is wonderful to view.
