I have had the privilege of working with Dr. Alvarez and her team for the past 3-years on various consulting projects. It's an honor when a doctor invites you into their office to provide an outside 3rd party review. The goal is to objectively identify any opportunity for improvement and stay up-to-date with any changes in protocols, standards and regulations in this constantly changing world. Not all offices open themselves to this type of 3rd party review. I highly recommend Safari of Smiles--your child will receive outstanding treatment in a quality-focused, caring environment.

Dr. Alvarez and her staff are absolutely AMAZING! My son has Autism, so Dr. Alvarez made it a point to explain everything to him, and stated that it is her goal to make him feel comfortable. In her operatory, she provides fidget toys and weighted blankets for kids with special needs. Dr. Alvarez was extremely patient and calm with him. I have been a dental assistant for over eleven years, and I have never heard or seen a pedodontist that cares for their patients like Dr. Alvarez does. Dr. Alvarez explained everything to my son, and her staff even provided him with a PECS visual schedule so he knows what to expect for his future appointments. Since her goal was to not overwhelm him, she broke his cleaning appointments into several visits. While she was talking to my husband and I, she was squeezing my son's arm--which he absolutely LOVED. It is like she understands him already, and is picking up on his quirks. I HIGHLY recommend Safari of Smiles to any child/parent, but especially with children with special needs!!
Every visit is a great experience. Dr Alvarez and staff are very friendly and professional. They make sure my daughters feel comfortable and that all my questions are answered to my satisfaction.
Apparently, during the last visit, to look at the infected tooth that we recently noticed, you didn’t even take the time or care to look at the other fillings that you performed on her, to check for other possible problems. Upon a visit to a different pediatric dentist for a second opinion, it was found that two teeth are infected (both of which you performed work on) and that the low dose of antibiotic that you prescribed, may not be enough, in the very short time frame before you were to extract one of the infected teeth. To me, this feels like malpractice, and my daughter will be seeing to a new dentist. I hope that this was not intentional on your part for continued progressive insurance billing reasons, or just plain poor professional practice.
You have been our daughter’s only dentist since she was three years old. The selection of health care professionals, by their parents, to provide medical care to our children is one of the top five most important things in my opinion. We feel that under your care, our daughter is now suffering ailments and subsequent infection due to your four years of dental care. How is it, that we have never missed an appointment, and at seven years old, she will undergo two teeth extractions, both teeth of which you have performed work on, and both, which are very infected and cannot be saved. Your explanation to her mother, is that you used a new filling material that has since been pulled from the dental industry, due to that specific material known to be failing (information that I have yet to confirm from other prominent dentists). Why would you not communicate this important information to all parents, to watch for possible problems in the future?
I highly recommend this establishment. Dr.Alverez has compassion and truly cares about her patients. I witnessed her with a child with autism and I was moved to tears how she calmed him down and then calmed his mother. She is wonderful and a great gift to Jacksonville.
