I wanted to buy some russian marshmallows and they were wet in the package - you could see some sort of a liquid on top of the marshmallows, right under the clear plastic package.
The store itself looks so-so, with some shelves being half-empty, which looks like a provincial shop in a third-world country. The selection of products is very poor compared to other russian stores I've been to in New York, Dallas, TX, West Hartford, CT, etc. I don't see why I would go to this store again selection-wise.
Also, when I entered the store, I was almost knocked down by the cigarette stench. This was a HUGE drawback as you normally don't expect a food store being filled with cigarette odor and have all the food absorb it. This is quite uninviting. I was happy to leave the store and get some fresh air!
Avoid this store! Don't waste your time and money on it. They sell food that either doesn't have a date on it, or is expired (in this case they would place a sticker over the best before date so you can't see it). I bought a box of chocolates and the filling was crumbling and tasted stale. It is supposed to be soft, creamy and smooth when it's fresh. No best before date was visible anywhere on the box. This is an illegal practice and should be either corrected immediately or reported to the authorities.
The staff is friendly, however, and this is why I'm giving two stars instead of one.
The lady at the store has been kind and helpful every time I've gone. Seriously people, you've got to check this place out. Don't pass up the chocolates (unless they have liquor and you're underage)!
Great place. Not only food but connection wise as well. 6 years ago I moved to Jacksonville. With help of gourmet house I was able to find house to rent and job later on. Stop by check it out. You won't be disappointed.
I just returned from Poland. Even though the selection is mostly Russian/Ukrainian, I was pleasantly shocked to find quite a few Polish items--and even Austrian Mozart chocolate balls! Everything I've bought there so far (over $25-worth) has been delicious and wonderful. We'll definitely be back, especially for the Płascie Mleczko! :-)
During my vocations in Jacksonville Fl. I was passing by Russian store name "Gourmet House "and found it very nice!!!!Everything was very fresh (including dairy, cold cuts, pickled product and the bakery stuff)all the product was fresh and delicious!!! Staff were very friendly and polite.Especially the boss Svetlana she greeted us with warmth.
Had the best experience at the Gourmet House! The owner was so gracious and kind. Explained all the products, gave me a few samples and even a chocolate bar! It was a lovely, quaint store with a lot of variety and interesting items. Will be back for sure!
